Grant Redden

Born and raised in southwest Wyoming on a sheep and cattle ranch, Grant Redden always had a bug to paint. He naturally looked at the landscape, animals and people as subjects for his creative impulse. His parents were from pioneer stock; his mother was born in a log cabin on the Henry's Fork of the Green River in southwest Wyoming to a homesteading family and attended a one-room school house until high school. Her family was independent and self-reliant. His father's family was among the first pioneers to settle in the deserts of Utah. With this background, Grant developed a strong attachment to the land and life, and an interest in history. He feels fortunate to have built his home and raised his family on 120 acres of summer pastureland and dedicates himself to painting what he knows.

Primarily self-taught, he has been mentored by many generous living masters and immersed himself in the study of deceased masters such as Sargent, Sorolla, Von Zugel and many others.

Grant has been a member of the Cowboy Artists of America since 2012. His paintings have since won awards in the annual CAA art show, winning six gold medals” and two silver medals for oil painting and a silver medal for watercolor painting. He has won multiple “Stetson Awards” and “American Hat Awards,” an honor voted on by the participating CAA artists for best group of works. He has shown work for several years at the Masters of the American West at the Autry Museum in Los Angeles, and three years at the Prix de West show at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
