NARRATIVE: Before contact with European settlers, Native Americans made ornaments and decorative items of bone, shell, stone, etc. However, beads of ceramic or glass offered by the early colonists soon became desired items. Such trade articles as beads, cloth, metal pots, blankets, knives, guns and powder served to expand trade relations for beaver pelts, deer hides, etc. supplied by the Natives.
